SEO Marketing

SEO is an acronym for “Search Engine Optimization.” There are two forms of it: On-page, and off-page.

What is SEO marketing?

On-page SEO is the art and science of structuring the content of a website, planning how one piece links into another, with what keywords and formatting settings. This tells Google’s artificial intelligence (as well as other search engines, like Yahoo! or Bing) how to categorize your site and rank it in competition with others.

Off-page SEO is the art and science of getting other websites to hyperlink to your site. For example, many business-to-business companies would pay serious money for Forbes Magazine to post an article about their business, with a link leading their audience back to it. Both the quantity and quality of links tell search engines’ AI how credible your businesses site is or isn’t, leading them to either boost your rank in the search engines, or lower it.

When would you need an SEO strategy?

We would recommend that you have an SEO strategy for any kind of presence you’d like to establish online; however, most particularly if you have long-term goals for your business that extend longer than a year.

SEO is something that takes months, in rare cases even years, to see full results from. It’s very difficult (though, of course, not impossible) to get links of specific levels of quality. Because of this, it’s easy to fall for short-term pitches; these are almost always what are called “black hat” SEO marketers.

In the SEO world, there are white hats, gray hats, and black hats. White hats are what our firm is: by the book, ethical, and legal. Gray hats are firms that are morally relative in how they acquire links, often using tactics that are legal today, but may be illegal tomorrow. Meanwhile, black hats are marketers or marketing firms that completely ignore the law and regulations, gain spikes of short-term results if any at all, that almost always end in the long-term with your business being penalized for.
